Ismael de la Rosa
A native of Seville, Ismael de la Rosa is part of a long lineage of famous flamenco gypsies known as the “Familia Fernández.” Ismael was raised around flamenco festivals and theaters, accompanying his family, all of whom have contributed to the spread the art of flamenco throughout the world, from their eldest to youngest family members. Ismael’s uncle, the great Curro Fernández, took Ismael under his wing and brought him to countless flamenco shows, where Ismael always had a spot at the “fin de fiestas.” Ismael began his professional career at only 7 years old, debuting with his family at the Festival de Biarritz. He then performed at the acclaimed “Homenaje de Bernarda de Utrera,” at the Teatro Maestranza in Seville, Spain. Ismael was also featured in the production “4 Generaciones,”which celebrated four generations of flamenco artists: his great- grandfather, Juan José Fernández, his great uncle, Curro Fernández, his father, Ismael Fernández, and himself, Ismael de la Rosa. He continued his career touring Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokio, Japan, with his father, and at 8 years old, Ismael performed as part of the prestigious Bienal de Sevilla, at the Teatro Maestranza. Soon thereafter, Ismael sang for world-famous flamenco dancer, Maria Pages, in her production “Canciones antes de una Guerra,” at the Teatro Villa Marta in Jerez. Ismael has participated in various festivals with his family, sharing the stage with many different flamenco artists, such as Capullo de Jerez, José Valencia, and Juana Amaya, to name a few. United with his family, Ismael also participated in the homage to la Peña Torre Macarena in the Teatro Alameda. Ismael has performed at the Flamenco Biennial in Seville with dancer “La Niña de los Cupones” in the production “30 Decibelios, ” which went on to tour Cádiz, Madrid and Jerez. And Ismael has been featured in Marco Flores and Olga Pericet’s production “Paso a Dos;” Guadalupe Torres’ “Roble y Acuerdate Cuando Entonces,” and Sonia Olla and Ismael Fernández’s “Entretiempo” and “Instantes.” Although still at the beginning of his career, Ismael has had the pleasure of working with great artists such as El Güito, Esperanza Fernández, David Dorantes, Miguel Angel Cortes, Pastora Galvan, Bernardo Parrilla, Paco Iglesias, Paco Fernández, Jose Anillo, Juan José Amador (Senior), Manuela Ríos, José Galván, Olga Pericet, Marcos Flores, Pedro Cordoba, Jesus Carmona, Sonia Olla, Nino de los Reyes, Ramón Porrina, El Farru, El Carpeta La Farruca, Alfonso Losa, and many more. In addition to accompanying dance, Ismael composes his own works; one of which was featured in the new album of famed singer José Anillo. Another composition peeked the interest of dancer Pedro Cordoba, who featured it in his production “Del 2000 y Pico,”shown at the Teatro Compac de la Gran Vía Madrileña. Ismael also participated in the presentation of renowned singer Esperanza Fernández’s latest album at the Teatro Fernando Fernán Gomez, in Madrid, and the Teatro Lope de Vega, in Sevilla, with invited artists Pastora Galván and David Dorantes. In addition to theater work, Ismael continues to develop his talent at various flamenco “Tablaos,” such as El Villa Rosa, Las Carboneras, Corral de la Morería and Casa Patas of Madrid, and Los Gallos, El Arenal, Museo del Flamenco y Peña Torres Macarena of Seville.
