Considered one of the most powerful and authentic flamenco dancers of her generation, Mercedes de Córdoba has a long and established career, always standing out for her talent, versatility and her ability to convey emotions.

 

Thus, after participating alongside the main figures of flamenco singing and dancing and touring the main national and international flamenco events as a prominent soloist, this precocious dancer, who as a child was already touring the main stages of the world, has become today one of the essential names in flamenco and contemporary dance.

 

After receiving the National Flamenco Award in her hometown in 2013, she began a promising career with her own company, presenting shows such as "Sin Más," which toured major stages in numerous European cities; "Ser. Ni conmigo ni sin mi," which achieved great critical and popular acclaim at events such as the 25th Jerez Festival, the 21st Seville Flamenco Biennial, and the 6th Madrid Flamenco Festival; and her own creation, "Sí, quiero," which received unanimous support at the 2022 Jerez Festival, winning four awards (Guitar con Alma Award, Best New Artist, Best Accompaniment Singer, and Best Musical Composition). It also garnered some of the best reviews from the specialized press at the 2022 Seville Flamenco Biennial.

As proof of her restlessness and creative maturity, the Cordoba native also stands out in her role as choreographer and artistic director of shows such as Cámara abierta, by Paula Comitre, which she directed together with David Coria and which won the Best Show Award at the last Jerez Festival; 'Con-migo, which Fernando Jiménez presented at the same event, winner of the Desplante Award at the La Unión Festival; "Ya no seremos', by Ángel Rojas; 'Sangre' by Rafael and Juan Campallo, 'Nacer para morir', by Adela Campallo; 'De Sevilla a Cádiz', by Arte en movimiento and the 'Sonido de mis días de Gema Moneo'.

At the 27th Jerez Festival in 2023, "Venero" was the most recent creation for Águeda Saavedra. She also collaborated with Eva Yerbabuena, for whom she choreographed a piece from her work "Al igual que tú," which premiered at the 25th Jerez Festival. This marked the first time the Granada-born choreographer had worked with a female choreographer; in this case, moreover, with someone who was her student and a member of her dance company in her early days.

In 2024, in addition to touring with the shows SI,QUIERO, SER and SIN MÁS, she was in the creative process of her new work: OLVIDADAS (A las Sin Sombrero) . This piece focuses on a group of women from the Generation of '27 who fought for culture and were relegated to oblivion. The first rehearsal, or work in progress, dedicated to Marga Gil Rosset, premiered on March 1, 2024, at the 28th Jerez Festival, and the world premiere of the final project, OLVIDADAS, took place at the Seville Biennial on September 28, 2024.

On February 27, 2025, we attended the performance of OLVIDADAS (A Las Sinsombrero) at the Villamarta Theatre as part of the 29th Jerez Festival. The Mercedes de Córdoba Company was able to share their creation once again, leaving no one indifferent and receiving a standing ovation of more than 10 minutes and significant acclaim from both the audience and specialized critics.

It was precisely with this show that she won a Lorca Award 2025 in the category of "best Spanish/flamenco show" on April 9, 2025. As if that weren't enough, she is also a candidate for nomination for "best dance show" at the Max Awards 2025, in addition to "best female dance performer" and "best musical composition for a stage show"
